PASTOR RICHARD BARBOUR
We are grateful and fortunate to have The Rev. Dr. Richard Barbour as our interim pastor.
Pastor Rich was born in Staten Island, NY, where he and his parents lived for ten years, then moved to Morganville, NJ. He attended Marlboro Central School (Bruce Springsteen's first band, the Castiles, played at his 8th grade graduation dance) and Freehold High School(where he met the love of his life, Avis, in Mr. Behson's 11th period Algebra 2 class).
He graduated from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ and taught a year of 9th grade English at Brick Township High School, Bricktown, NJ. He and Avis were married in 1974, then moved to Columbus, OH, where he attended and graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He spent a year of internship at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Baltimore, MD. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from the University of Toronto in 1994.
Pastor Rich served four congregations over the course of 40 years: Crown of Glory Lutheran in Branchville, NJ, Trinity Old Lutheran Church in Buffalo, NY, Messiah Lutheran Church in Rochester, NY, and Advent Lutheran Church in Boca Raton, FL.
Since retirement, he has served three different congregations as an interim pastor: Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pinecrest, FL, Grace Lutheran Church in Miami Springs, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Boca Raton. Avis and Pastor Rich have three sons, a daughter, and three granddaughters. They moved to Sebastian summer of 2021. They love to walk, exercise, travel, and dance. Their passion is Argentine Tango.
